What it is and how it works

UltraClear® Laser Facial is our lighter introduction to UltraClear laser resurfacing. It uses the UltraClear platform’s 3DMIRACL® treatment approach to target the very superficial layers of the skin. It is designed for concerns such as dullness, uneven tone, mild pigmentation, early photoageing and subtle textural irregularity, with minimal social downtime compared with deeper ablative resurfacing. The treatment creates controlled microscopic areas of superficial ablation. The treated surface then undergoes a natural exfoliation process, helping reveal fresher-looking skin beneath. This is deliberately different from our deeper UltraClear Laser Resurfacing treatment. If the main concern is deeper wrinkles, significant acne scarring or more advanced textural change, a more intensive UltraClear mode may be more appropriate.

What it may help with

• Low-downtime introduction to laser resurfacing
• Can improve overall skin brightness and radiance
• Can improve uneven-looking skin tone
• Can reduce selected superficial pigmentation and age spots
• Can improve mild photoageing
• Can refine subtle surface texture
• Uses UltraClear’s 2910 nm cold fibre laser technology
• Very superficial treatment compared with deeper UltraClear modes
• Short treatment time for suitable patients and areas
• Can form part of an ongoing preventative or skin-maintenance programme

Suitable for

UltraClear® Laser Facial may be suitable for adults who want a relatively light laser treatment for overall skin refreshment with minimal downtime. It may be particularly useful for dull-looking skin, mild sun damage, uneven tone, superficial pigmentation, early textural changes or patients interested in preventative skin maintenance. It is not intended to be the main UltraClear treatment for deep wrinkles, significant acne scars or advanced skin ageing. Those concerns may require deeper fractional resurfacing or another UltraClear treatment plan. Your skin type, pigmentation, medical history and treatment goals will be assessed before deciding which UltraClear intensity is most appropriate.

Areas treated

Depending on assessment and device protocol, treatment may include:
• Face
• Neck
• Décolletage
• Other suitable areas of superficial photodamage
The precise treatment area and parameters are individualised.

What happens on the day

Your skin is assessed and cleansed before treatment. Medical history, recent sun exposure, previous laser treatments, pigmentation tendency and skincare are reviewed. Appropriate eye protection is worn throughout laser treatment. The UltraClear handpiece is passed systematically over the treatment area, delivering controlled 2910 nm laser energy into the superficial skin. The 3DMIRACL® treatment itself can be relatively quick, with the manufacturer describing sessions of approximately 10–15 minutes for suitable treatment areas. Most patients do not require the same degree of anaesthesia associated with deeper ablative resurfacing, although individual comfort and treatment parameters vary. After treatment, the skin can feel warm and look mildly red. Controlled exfoliation generally develops over the following days.

Downtime and Aftercare

This is the lowest-downtime treatment in our UltraClear range. Immediately afterwards, the skin can look pink or red and may feel warm, similar to mild sun exposure. The manufacturer reports that this short-term sunburn-like sensation commonly resolves within approximately 30 minutes to a few hours. Superficial exfoliation typically begins around two to three days after treatment. Skin can feel dry or slightly rough while this occurs. There is generally no medical downtime, although “social downtime” varies between individuals. Sun protection and gentle post-laser skincare are particularly important while the skin recovers.

Risks and side effects

Expected temporary effects can include redness, warmth, sensitivity, dryness, roughness and superficial exfoliation. As with other laser procedures, less common complications can include prolonged redness, swelling, blistering, crusting, infection, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation and, rarely, scarring. Although UltraClear is designed to limit residual thermal damage and the manufacturer describes treatment across all skin types, treatment parameters still need to be selected appropriately for the individual patient. A history of pigmentation problems, darker skin type, recent tanning and previous adverse reactions to laser treatment should therefore form part of the assessment.

Contraindications

Treatment may need to be avoided or postponed where there is active infection or significant inflammation in the treatment area, recent tanning or substantial sun exposure, certain medical conditions, impaired healing or medicines that may affect treatment safety. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, history of cold sores, previous pigmentary complications, recent aesthetic procedures and current prescription or active skincare should be discussed during consultation. A full medical and skin assessment will be performed before treatment.

    Frequently Asked Questions

The Laser Facial uses the superficial 3DMIRACL® approach and is designed for skin brightness, tone, mild pigmentation and subtle texture with minimal downtime. Deeper UltraClear modes reach further into the epidermis and dermis and are intended for more substantial concerns such as deeper wrinkles, scars and more advanced photoageing. Your consultation determines which level is appropriate.

Yes, but it is a very superficial form of fractional ablative treatment. UltraClear’s 2910 nm wavelength is strongly absorbed by water and precisely removes microscopic areas of superficial tissue. With 3DMIRACL®, treatment is concentrated in the uppermost skin layers, which is why recovery is substantially lighter than deeper ablative resurfacing.

The manufacturer states that improvement after the 3DMIRACL® treatment can become noticeable within approximately three to five days. Superficial exfoliation commonly develops around days two to three, after which the skin can look clearer and brighter. Results can continue to develop and may build with a treatment series.

This depends on your skin and goals. UltraClear describes 3DMIRACL® as commonly being performed as a series, and its current patient information notes that the number of treatments varies according to individual needs and the concern being treated. We will recommend a programme after assessing your skin rather than using the same schedule for everyone.
