Bespoke Medical Skincare

A personalised skincare programme built around your skin rather than a standard routine. We assess your skin type, concerns, current products, lifestyle and treatment goals, then create a practical evidence-led plan using appropriate active ingredients, barrier support and daily sun protection. Where a prescription treatment might be appropriate, this is considered separately following clinical assessment and prescribing.

What it is and how it works

Good skincare does not need to mean using a large number of products. Bespoke Medical Skincare starts by identifying what your skin actually needs. We combine clinical assessment with skin-analysis technology to help build a more detailed picture of your skin and identify areas that may benefit from targeted care. We look at concerns such as acne and congestion, pigmentation, redness, sensitivity, dehydration, sun damage, fine lines and changes associated with ageing. The skin analyser can provide additional objective information to support this assessment and can also be useful for documenting the skin at baseline and reviewing change over time. We then build a routine around the ingredients most relevant to those concerns while protecting the skin barrier and avoiding unnecessary duplication or irritation. We then build a routine around the ingredients most relevant to those concerns while protecting the skin barrier and avoiding unnecessary duplication or irritation. A programme may include cleansing, moisturisation, broad-spectrum sun protection and carefully selected active ingredients such as retinoid-type skincare, vitamin C and other antioxidants, niacinamide, alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids, azelaic-acid-based approaches, peptides, ceramides or pigment-targeting ingredients where appropriate. Not every patient needs every ingredient. The aim is a routine that is effective enough to make a difference but simple enough to use consistently.

What happens on the day

We begin by discussing what you would like to improve and reviewing the products you currently use. Your consultation can include digital skin analysis using our skin analyser. This provides additional information about the appearance and characteristics of the skin and helps us identify and document areas of concern. The results are interpreted alongside — rather than instead of — clinical assessment, your medical history and what you would actually like to improve. We assess your skin type, visible concerns, sensitivity, barrier function, pigmentation tendency, previous reactions, lifestyle, sun exposure and any aesthetic procedures you are having or considering. Your current routine is then simplified or adjusted where necessary. We identify which products should remain, which may be unnecessary and which active ingredients could be introduced. Rather than changing everything at once, active products can be introduced progressively so that tolerance and response can be assessed. You will receive a practical morning and evening routine with guidance on the order and frequency of products and how to introduce active ingredients safely. Downtime and Aftercare

A skincare programme itself does not usually require downtime, but some active ingredients can cause an adjustment period. Temporary dryness, mild peeling, tightness or irritation can occur when introducing ingredients such as retinoids or exfoliating acids. We therefore introduce stronger actives progressively and adjust frequency according to tolerance. Significant burning, swelling, persistent redness or worsening skin symptoms should not simply be regarded as evidence that a product is ‘working’. The routine should be reviewed if significant irritation develops.

Risks and side effects

Skincare can cause adverse effects, particularly when several active ingredients are combined too quickly. Potential problems include dryness, irritation, burning, redness, peeling, allergic or irritant contact dermatitis, acneiform breakouts and worsening pigmentation following inflammation. Certain active ingredients increase sensitivity to sunlight, and some are unsuitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Prescription treatments have their own contraindications, warnings and adverse effects and require separate clinical assessment. A gradual, coordinated approach helps minimise unnecessary irritation.

Contraindications

Individual ingredients may be unsuitable because of pregnancy or breastfeeding, allergy, eczema or other inflammatory skin disease, current medicines, previous reactions or concurrent aesthetic procedures. If a skin lesion is changing, bleeding, non-healing or diagnostically uncertain, skincare should not be used as a substitute for appropriate medical assessment. Patients with significant or persistent inflammatory skin disease may require dermatological assessment rather than purely cosmetic skincare.

This depends on your skin. Options may include retinoid-type skincare, vitamin C or other antioxidants, niacinamide, alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids, azelaic-acid-based products, peptides, ceramides and pigment-targeting ingredients. Not everyone needs all of these, and the concentration and frequency should be chosen according to tolerance and treatment goals.
