Concerns

Acne, redness or uneven skin tone

Persistent spots, acne scarring, flushing or dark patches? Let’s understand what is driving them and which treatments are appropriate for your skin.

What you might be noticing

Acne breakouts that keep returning, often around the jaw or chin. Marks or pitted scars left behind after spots heal.

Redness or flushing across the cheeks and nose, sometimes with visible blood vessels.

Age spots or darker patches on the forehead, cheeks or upper lip that make your tone look patchy.

Why it happens

Acne develops when oil, dead skin and bacteria block pores, triggering inflammation. Hormones, genetics, stress and some products call play a part, and adult acne is common.

Redness can come from rosacea, a sensitised barrier, or triggers such as heat, alcohol and spicy food.

Pigmentation is often caused by sun exposure, hormones, or marks left after inflammation.

  • Keep a note of what triggers flushing.
  • Avoid scrubs and harsh toners as they can worsen redness.

If spots are painful or deep, are they leaving scars, if they are affecting your mood, or haven’t improved after consistent use of over-the-counter care.

Inflammation can trigger extra pigment, which lingers after the spot has gone.

Often yes, depending on the scar type and your skin tone. Active acne is usually brought under control first, so new scars don’t form while you treat old ones.
