Sunekos®

Sunekos® is an injectable skin-quality treatment combining hyaluronic acid with a specific blend of amino acids. It is designed to support the extracellular matrix — the structural environment surrounding skin cells — and is used to improve skin hydration, elasticity and the appearance of skin ageing without aiming to create the targeted volume or contour associated with conventional dermal fillers.

What it is and how it works

Sunekos® combines hyaluronic acid with a specific amino-acid formulation and is used as an injectable approach to skin biorevitalisation. The extracellular matrix (ECM) is the network surrounding cells within the skin and contains components including collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. These structures contribute to skin hydration, elasticity, resilience and support, and they change as skin ages. Rather than being used primarily to add projection or reshape facial features, Sunekos® is intended to influence skin quality and the extracellular environment. Clinical and histological studies of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid combined with amino acids have reported increased fibroblast activity and type III collagen production, alongside clinical changes in treated facial skin. More recent histological work has reported similar findings, although the clinical evidence base is considerably smaller than for many established aesthetic procedures.

What it may help with

• Supports improvement in overall skin quality
• Can improve skin hydration
• May improve elasticity and firmness
• Can soften the appearance of fine lines
• Designed to support extracellular-matrix remodelling
• Does not primarily aim to create filler-like facial volume
• Can be considered for delicate areas including the periocular region
• Can be used on the face, neck and other appropriate areas depending on the formulation
• Can form part of a wider preventative or regenerative skin-quality plan

Suitable for

Sunekos® may be suitable for adults concerned about fine lines, dehydration, reduced elasticity, crepey skin or a general decline in skin quality. It may be particularly useful where the treatment goal is improvement in the quality of delicate skin rather than facial contouring or substantial volume replacement. The periocular area is commonly associated with Sunekos® treatment, but under-eye concerns can arise from several different causes. Hollowing, pigmentation, visible blood vessels, skin laxity, oedema and fat prolapse require different approaches, so assessment is important before deciding whether a skin-quality injectable is appropriate.

Areas treated

Depending on the formulation and individual assessment, treatment may include:
• Face
• Under-eye / periocular area
• Neck
• Décolletage
• Hands where appropriate

What happens on the day

Your consultation begins with an assessment of your skin quality, elasticity, hydration, areas of concern, medical history and previous aesthetic treatments. If Sunekos® is appropriate, the skin is cleansed and the product is placed using a series of small injections according to the selected formulation and treatment area. Small raised areas can be visible at injection points immediately afterwards and generally settle as the product disperses. Sunekos® is commonly used as a treatment course rather than being judged after one session. The exact number and interval of sessions depend on the formulation selected, skin condition and treatment objective.

Downtime and Aftercare

Temporary redness, small raised injection points, swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur after treatment. The delicate under-eye area may be more prone to temporary swelling. Most injection-related effects settle progressively, although recovery varies between individuals. You will receive appropriate aftercare advice and information about symptoms that require clinical review.

Risks and side effects

Expected temporary effects include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and small raised areas at injection sites. Other potential complications of injectable treatment include infection, inflammatory reactions, persistent swelling, hypersensitivity and an unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome. As with any injectable procedure, appropriate anatomical knowledge, patient selection, injection technique and management of complications are important. Product-specific adverse effects and contraindications will be reviewed for the exact Sunekos® formulation being used.

Contraindications

Treatment may need to be avoided or postponed where there is active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, relevant allergy or hypersensitivity, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or certain medical conditions or medicines. Previous injectable treatments, previous complications and factors affecting normal healing should be discussed during consultation. A full medical history and individual suitability assessment will be completed before treatment.

Concerns this treatment may help

  • Lines and Wrinkles

  • Face that looks tired, flat or sagging

  • Tired eyes, thinning lips or crepey neck

  • Dull, dry, or rough-textured skin

  • Acne, redness or uneven skin tone

Both are hyaluronic-acid-based injectable skin treatments, but their formulations and proposed mechanisms differ. Profhilo® uses high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid in hybrid cooperative complexes, while Sunekos® combines hyaluronic acid with a defined amino-acid formulation. Which is more appropriate depends on your skin, treatment area and goals.

Sunekos® can be considered for the delicate periocular area with an appropriate formulation and technique. However, not every under-eye concern is caused by poor skin quality. Hollowing, pigmentation, vascular show, swelling and fat prolapse can all contribute to a tired appearance, so the area should be assessed before treatment is recommended.

Sunekos® produces gradual rather than immediate filler-like changes. Hydration-related changes may be noticed earlier, while changes associated with tissue and extracellular-matrix remodelling develop over the treatment course. Published studies of hyaluronic-acid/amino-acid injections have assessed outcomes over a period of weeks to months.

Sunekos® is generally used as a treatment course, but the number and spacing of sessions depend on the formulation selected, treatment area and degree of skin ageing. We will recommend the appropriate protocol after assessing your skin rather than using the same schedule for every patient.
