Concerns

Asymmetry and Imbalance

Uneven lips, a weaker chin or profile, or features that feel out of proportion? Find out how subtle, planned changes can help restore balance.

What you might be noticing

Once side of your lips is fuller or sits higher than the other. Your chin looks small is set back in profile, so the nose or neck seems more prominent.

One cheek or eyebrow sits differently, or your face looks lopsided in phots, especially when you smile.

Why it happens

No face is perfectly symmetrical, and small differences are normal. Some are present from birth through bone structure, teeth and jaw shape. Others develop over time: sleeping on one side, chewing on one side, uneven volume loss with age, or previous treatment that was not balanced.

How we assess it

Every treatment plan at Palmeira Clinic in Brighton and Hove starts with a consultation with our medical team, in three steps:

Your concerns and goals

We listen to what’s bothering you and what you’d like to achieve.

A thorough assessment

We review you medical history and examine your skin and features to understand the cause.

Honest advice

We explain what may help, what won’t, and any risks, so you can decide without pressure.

Treatments we may discuss

Depending on your assessment, your clinician may talk you through one or more of the options below. Not every option suits everyone, and we’ll only recommend treatment where we think it’s appropriate.

  • Lip Filler

  • Dermal Fillers

  • Lines & Wrinkles Consultation

What you can do at home

  • Look at yourself from several angles and in natural light, not just a phone camera, which distorts features.
  • Try sleeping on your back and chewing on both sides.
  • Gather photos from a few years ago to show your clinician what has changed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Almost everyone has some asymmetry, and small differences are part of what makes a face natural. It only matters if it bothers you.

Volume loss with age is often uneven, which can exaggerate existing differences. Front cameras and video calls also show your face flipped and distorted, which can make asymmetry stand out.

A sudden droop or weakness on one side of the face needs urgent help. Call 999 if it comes with arm weakness or slurred speech. Any new, unexplained change should be checked by your GP.

Yes. Restoring balance is about proportion, not size. Small precise changes in one area can make the whole face look more harmonious.

Features are viewed together, so an imbalance in one area is often linked to another. A chin, for example, changes how the nose and lips look. Seeing the whole picture gives a more natural result.
